How to take part in the strike ON Tuesday 11/23

Spanish / español

1. Make sure you’re signed on to the action form here.
If you haven’t signed yet, do so ASAP — we need you signed on to make sure we’re sending you all the info & updates you need.

2. Send a strike notice to GoPuff on Tuesday (before your first scheduled shift, if you have one) and learn about your rights below.

Use the template strike notice to submit to driversupport@gopuff.com. The legal info below is important to read — take a look, and if you have any Qs email gig@workingwa.org.

3. Refuse to work all day on Tuesday, November 23!

  • If you have shifts scheduled for Tuesday:

    • Hold onto these shifts (do not drop them in the app).

    • Send a strike notice to GoPuff (see legal info below — we’ll send a template.)

    • Do not work on Tuesday.

  • If you don’t have shifts on Tuesday:

    • Keep an eye out for notifications for new Tuesday shifts. If you see one, schedule it — you can help make an impact by holding onto a shift you’ll refuse to work.

    • Do not go into work on Tuesday, and ignore notifications for on-demand hours.

    • Send a strike notice to GoPuff (optional if you don’t have any shifts scheduled — see legal info below).

Some drivers have expressed interest in organizing a picket line at their warehouse the day of the action. If you’d like to do this, please check out the info here.

4. Report what you’re seeing at your warehouse on Tuesday.

We want to collect as much info as we can about how the strike is unfolding on Tuesday! Use this form to directly report what you’re seeing / hearing from workers at your warehouse on Tuesday.

Legal Resources

Before you take part, make sure you know your rights! Click here to read about your rights under the NLRA, why it’s important to submit a strike notice to GoPuff before your first scheduled shift on Tuesday, and what to do if you experience retaliation.

➜ READ THE LEGAL RESOURCE PAGE

Note: our goal is to prevent GoPuff from retaliating against striking drivers by proactively asserting drivers’ right to collective action under the NLRA. But in order to be as safe as possible, we should be prepared for what to do if retaliation occurs. If you feel you’ve been retaliated against for taking part in the strike, submit a report here. Lawyers with our allied organizations Towards Justice and the Fair Work Center have agreed to be available for support. Use the form to share what happened so they can reach out.

Template strike notice

A strike notice should be delivered to GoPuff in advance of the action (before your first missed shift if you have any shifts scheduled Tuesday). Copy & paste the text below, fill in your name at the bottom, and send your strike notice to driversupport@gopuff.com.

Attention GoPuff corporate and warehouse management:

This is to notify you that today, November 23, 2021, we’re going on strike for one day to make the following demands:

1) Better pay: We need the hourly subsidy raised to at minimum $20/hour, PLUS the cost of our mileage during work time at the IRS rate. The hourly subsidy should cover all the hours we work, whether it's scheduled or unscheduled.

2) Flexible access to shifts: We need GoPuff to give a guaranteed minimum number of hours to all drivers, and give us the ability to drop & schedule shifts freely.

3) Deactivation protection: We need a clear explanation of causes for termination, no terminations without a specific cause, and a third-party appeal process. If GoPuff calls us independent contractors, they shouldn't let warehouse managers decide on terminating us.

We're taking this action together with GoPuff workers across the country in support of these demands, and in support of our co-workers.

This is a peaceful, one-day strike, and we will return to work unconditionally for our next scheduled shift starting at or after 12:01 am on November 24, 2021.

You are prohibited by federal law from firing, discriminating or retaliating against us for fighting together to improve our jobs.

We are sick of being treated unfairly, being denied the flexibility we need, and not being able to pay our bills or provide for our families.

Make sure to take a screenshot of your strike notice & save the email for record-keeping. If you want, you can CC gig@workingwa.org on your strike notice so we have a record too. If you don’t have shifts scheduled Tuesday & are taking part in the strike by simply not working, sending a strike notice is optional. For more info on strike notices, see the legal resource page here.

Outreach RESOURCES

The most important way to get other drivers on board is to talk to them one on one, make sure they’re committed, and get them to sign on here: https://gp-action.paperform.co/?s=share

We’ve put together an outreach resource page here with tips for bringing fellow drivers on board.

You can also share this hub & the legal resource page to provide drivers with more information if they’re interested in taking part but want to learn more about their rights & the risks of striking.
