Transparency
Gig workers deserve transparency.
Companies must now provide the info gig workers need up front on each offer and a detailed breakdown of work, including time, miles, pay, and tips — so we know what our pay really comes out to and what’s worth it.
The details:
Under this PayUp policy, apps have to provide real transparency about offers and completed jobs — no more hiding information from workers to get us to accept work that isn’t worth it. Each offer has to be available for at least two minutes, and has to tell workers:
Estimated time to complete the job
Estimated mileage to complete the job
Locations of work (like businesses and approximate customer locations)
Guaranteed pay (must be at least what the pay standard requires for that estimated time & mileage)
Any up-front tips (if the customer has already added a tip)
Additionally, app companies have to provide clear breakdowns of pay after the fact, for each job and for each week. These pay stubs must include time, miles, pay, and tips, so that workers can easily see if we’ve been paid correctly and calculate how much we’re earning after expenses.
This policy goes into effect January 13th, 2024, under CB 120294.
