“GoPuff only pays $4 a delivery, sometimes with no tips after driving 30 minutes across town.”

Abbe B., GoPuff worker, Seattle

I started working on GoPuff in 2020 because I needed extra cash. I thought the flexibility of gig work would allow me to stop living paycheck to paycheck.

But now I’m struggling to make enough to get by at all.

Decreasing pay has meant being short on food and I can’t keep up with bills. Even covering things like car repairs and oil changes so I can keep working is a challenge.

GoPuff only pays $4 a delivery, sometimes with no tips after driving 30 minutes across town. We deliver to unsafe locations, and put so many miles on our cars — which is especially expensive with the price of gas now. I’ve ruined my new car driving all over Seattle’s streets and running into potholes.

GoPuff’s model involves working on shifts, but there are never enough shifts available for the number of drivers they recruit, so we’re always scrambling to get whatever work we can. There’s no training, we’re just thrown into the job and given high expectations. We don’t even get a real paystub or proof of income.

The app itself is horrible too. We can no longer call customers, so if we run into any problems delivering we have to call customer service, and we can’t get the answers we need from them. The app doesn’t work more often than it works these days.

We deserve to get paid for our time serving others, and we need to be able to take care of our families and live a life just like other workers. We need mileage pay and we need to be able to see what we’ve earned and be protected, just like any other job.
